Background

I was initially drawn to theatre, especially voice and speech, through singing. I auditioned for a musical in my freshman year of college and theatre has been part of my life since then. I invested a lot of time in my singing voice as a college student but developed some harmful habits that made singing unpleasant for me.

When I became interested in reclaiming my vocal health, I sought out a workshop led by Catherine Fitzmaurice. That transformational experience led to continued practice and study, and finally to earning certification as an Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®.

As I began teaching university theatre, I also began teaching voice classes and coaching productions. To expand my knowledge and ability to teach and coach accents, I sought out Knight-Thompson Speechwork (KTS) training to enhance my coaching skills. I have continued my study of speech and accents since 2013 and in 2024, I earned certification as an Associate Teacher of Knight-Thompson Speechwork.

In 2021, I began exploring Lessac Kinesensics (LK), based on the work of Arthur Lessac. The Lessac concepts of self-teaching through sensing and feeling transformed my vocal health and expanded my vocal and physical range. These concepts are now key components of my teaching, coaching, and personal practice. I was designated as a Lessac Kinesensic Practitioner in 2021 and a Certified Trainer in 2023.

Today, I draw from all of these experiences as I work with actors to facilitate their embodiment of character through voice and accent.
